An Indiana father <\/span>shot <\/span>and killed his 9-year-old daughter while telling his children to not play with guns, police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s dead. She\u2019s f***ing dead,\u201d he told officers who arrived at his Hobart home, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Lake County.<\/p>\n

Olivia Hummel was unresponsive and lying in a bedroom entrance when police responded to a call of a person shot, police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to wrap your head around it,\u201d Hobart Police Lt. James Gonzales told InsideEdition.com Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The dad told officers he had been showing the weapon to his twin 10-year-old sons and told them to \u201cnever use a gun\u201d when his daughter walked into the room.<\/p>\n

He pulled the trigger, <\/span>shooting <\/span>the girl in the head, police said.<\/p>\n

The boys told police their father had forgotten he\u2019d put bullets in the gun, according to the affidavit. Earlier, he had emptied the weapon and pulled the trigger while pointing it at the boys, they told officers.<\/p>\n

He then reloaded the gun, police said. When Olivia walked into the room, he said \u201cSee, don\u2019t play with guns,\u201d and shot her, according to the document.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe shooted her,\u201d one of the boys told officers on the scene.<\/p>\n

The father told police he had been showing the gun to his kids and didn\u2019t think it was loaded.<\/p>\n

\u201cI <\/span>shot <\/span>her,” Hummel told his wife on the phone before he was taken into custody, according to the affidavit. “I\u2019m so sorry. It was so stupid.”<\/p>\n

Hummel was arrested and charged with reckless homicide, neglect of a child resulting in death, battery resulting in death and two counts of child neglect.<\/p>\n

He has been released on $70,000 bail, police said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
