But despite its good intentions, the docuseries has been under fire for allegedly exploiting the same workers the title claims to defend. Most recently Gia Paige has come forward, stating that the documentary\u2019s use of her legal name alongside her porn name has put her in real danger.<\/p>\n<div class=\"e3lan e3lan-in-post1\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Gia Paige (the actress\u2019 porn name) is one of the few subjects who has been featured in both<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>the original documentary<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>and its follow up,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em>Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On<\/em>. She appears in the docuseries\u2019 fourth episode<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>\u201cMoney Shot,\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>which reconnects with Riley Reynolds, another subject from the original documentary. The episode follows Reynolds\u2019&nbsp;growing adult film business while exploring racism in the porn industry. Paige appears briefly in the episode, but because \u201cMoney Shot\u201d uses her real name in one scene and the episode uses a scene she allegedly asked its directors to cut, Paige has started speaking out against the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Netflix<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>documentary. \u201cThere are many dangers of having your identity exposed as a sex worker,\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Paige said in an interview with The Daily Dot.<\/p>\n<p><em>Turned On<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>was released on April 21. Within a week of the docuseries\u2019 premiere, Paige claims that people had used the series to determine her real name and harass her:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSomeone [figured] out my last name and [did] extensive research on me and all of my family. They\u2019ve been busy sending all of them envelopes filled with photos of me from the industry,\u201d she said. \u201cSome stranger knows where all of my family is. I can\u2019t put that kind of fear and anxiety into words.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paige initially didn\u2019t want to work with<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Jill Bauer,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Ronna Gradus, and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Rashida Jones<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>again. Bauer and Gradus both directed and produced the original documentary as well as the follow up, while Jones has an executive producer credit. According to The Daily Dot interview, Paige refused to participate in the follow up series for several months until she had a meeting with Bauer about personal boundaries. Shortly after it premiered, many adult film workers took to social media to call out the documentary, its directors, Jones, and Netflix for revealing the real identities of sex workers and allegedly exploiting images and videos without sex workers\u2019 consent. Janice Griffith, who was not featured in the documentary but is a well-known performer in the industry, has been especially vocal about&nbsp;<em>Hot Girls Wanted<\/em>, both<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>the original documentary<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>and its 2017 follow up. Two performers who were briefly featured in the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>\u201cDon\u2019t Stop Filming\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>episode of<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em>Turned On<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>have criticized the docuseries and reached out&nbsp;in an attempt to remove their scenes. Directors Bauer and Gradus have been more confrontational.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>In an interview with<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em>Variety<\/em>, the creators of the series defended<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em>Hot Girls Wanted<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>and disputed the allegations, saying that the docuseries abided by standards of documentary filmmaking and fair use. In the interview, Bauer directly refuted Paige\u2019s claim that she asked Bauer and Gradus to remove her from the final cut.
