<\/p>\n“She clinched her part in The Wolf of Wall Street during our first meeting\u2014by hauling off and giving Leonardo DiCaprio a thunderclap of a slap on the face,” writes Scorsese.<\/p>\n

It’s the first time the Oscar-winning director has spoken about Margot’s action, but she herself has previously mentioned how worried she was that the police were about to be called.<\/p>\n
In conversation with Harper’s Bazaar back in 2015, she revealed what was in her head during the audition.<\/p>\n “In my head I was like, ‘You have literally 30 seconds left in this room and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, just take it.’ And so I start screaming at him and he’s yelling back at me. And he’s really scary. I can barely keep up,” she said at the time.<\/p>\n “And he ends it saying, ‘You should be happy to have a husband like me. Now get over here and kiss me.’ So I walk up really close to his face and then I’m like, ‘Maybe I should kiss him. When else am I ever going to get a chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio, ever?’<\/p>\n “But another part of my brain clicks and I just go, Whack! I hit him in the face. And then I scream, ‘F**k you!’ And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze.”<\/p>\n Afterwards, she thought Leo was either going to get her arrested or sue her \u2013 but both he and Martin burst out laughing, and Leo even told her to hit him again.<\/p>\n A week later, she was offered the part of Naomi Lapaglia and her life changed forever.<\/p>\n But while Margot’s baller move paid off for her, other A-listers haven’t been so lucky in going off-piste at a career-defining audition.<\/p>\n Jake Gyllenhaal once reminisced about his Lord Of The Rings try-out, when he approached director Peter Jackson for the role of Frodo.<\/p>\n “I remember auditioning and going in and not being told that I needed a British accent,” he later told The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n “I really do remember Peter saying to me, ‘You know that you have to do this in a British accent?’ We heard back it was literally one of the worst auditions.”<\/p>\n And Drew Barrymore had an even more embarrassing experience when she turned up to audition for an unknown role earlier in her career.<\/p>\n “I won’t say the movie, but they called me in on a Sunday with a casting assistant,” she told The Sun.<\/p>\n “They didn’t think I was worthy enough of even reading with the casting director. They did it in the basement, and it was a scene where I have to do this oral thing with this guy’s hand, and no one was there so I had to do it to myself.”<\/p>\n Drew went on: “It was by far the most humiliating experience. I thought, ‘They think I’m such s**t that I’m here on a Sunday with the assistant, giving myself a finger in the mouth. This is a low point’.”<\/p>\n\n The Australian actress went off-script in the worst\/best way possible.
