The dad of Julia Derbyshire said his teen daughter had been subjected to merciless taunts<\/p>\n
A DAD who shared heartbreaking photos of his dying daughter has said she was taunted for being gay and took her own life as bullies continued to harass her online from miles away.<\/p>\n
Devastated Adrian Derbyshire said that his daughter Julia had been the butt of vile bullying, with the young girl even spat at in the campaign of abuse after a friend she had confided in about her sexuality spread it around the school.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nJulia was in hospital for five days before she passed away from an attempt on her own life<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Speaking about his daughter\u2019s plight, Adrian, of Warrington, Merseyside, said: \u201cIt all started when Julia was 12.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe approached her best friend and said \u2018I\u2019m not sure yet but I think I like girls\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was just exploring her sexuality and wanted to share it with her friend \u2013 but her friend told all the school and it started there.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Young Julia had started to get better but was still tormented online by her bullies<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nAdrian said he had shown Julia unconditional love in an attempt to help her rise above her bullies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Julia, who had been living in Missouri in the United States, eventually moved to the UK to be with her dad, with Adrian saying she was \u201cvery damaged\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said she had been trying to cope with the physical and psychological bullying by self-harming.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cBy this point she had just turned 14 and she came over very damaged.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first thing I did was show her unconditional love.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adrian said that Julia\u2019s confidence began to grow after the move to the UK, with the young woman starting to dream about the future and even considering studying political journalism at university.<\/p>\n
But Adrian the Sixth Form student was still receiving messages from her American bullies.<\/p>\n
Adrian said: \u201cI think the reason why she did that was because she had gained a lot of confidence in herself and she wanted to speak to them and get them to like her for who she was.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe gave her the confidence to go back to the haters to stick up for herself and others \u2013 but it was too much too soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did not have long enough and if we had a couple more years she would have got through this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adrian and Julia shared a pizza and watched a film together the night before she attempted to take her own life in October 2015.<\/p>\n
But the next morning Adrian discovered the 16-year-old had collapsed in the living room after attempting suicide.<\/p>\n
Adrian desperately tried to give her CPR until ambulance crews arrived, with paramedics rushing to take over.<\/p>\n
But despite their best attempts, the young girl died in hospital five days later.<\/p>\n
She was just 16.<\/p>\n
Since her death, Adrian discovered Julia had been leading a double life with hidden telephones and a false identity as a member of website groups which promoted teenage self-harming and suicide.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The young woman died in October 2015, with her dad bravely sharing photos to raise awareness around the impact of bullying<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Julia had been speaking to her American bullies online despite moving to the UK<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The devastated dad said no one should have to go through the pain he felt at losing his daughter<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nAdrian had to visit his daughter\u2019s grave for her 18th birthday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Adrian bravely shared photographs of his daughter in a hospital bed on Wednesday March 8 \u2013 the day that should have been celebrated as Julia\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cIt was a horrific week for myself, my family and Julia\u2019s friends building up to Julia\u2019s 18th birthday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t going out with Julia on her birthday having champagne and celebrating \u2013 I was taking flowers to her grave. I then knew something needed to be done.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he had received thousands of messages of support from around the world, as well as being in contact with a chief representative from the United Nations.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThe response tells us how much of a problem it is.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are kids who are getting bullied and they are sitting next to their parents at the dinner table with the iPad and being bullied.<\/p>\n
