Vicki Bowles said she chose the slightly quirky outfit because son Jaiden ‘loves rifling through the store mag for new toys<\/h2>\n

A mum came up with either a completely genius – or totally bizarre – costume for her son for World Book Day .<\/p>\n

Vicki Bowles, 33, was scratching her head over what to dress nine-year-old son Jaiden as for the annual celebration of children’s novels.<\/p>\n

Then she remembered he loves rifling through the Argos catalogue.<\/p>\n

So today, Jaiden turned up to Victoria Park Primary School in Bristol dressed head to toe as his favourite store mag.<\/p>\n

Vicki said: “I was trying to think of something and I couldn’t, but he likes looking through the Argos catalogue and I thought it would be funny.<\/p>\n

“He loves it. He said it was really funny and he couldn’t wait to show his friends.<\/p>\n

“On the way to school, walking there people stopped us laughing and saying it’s brilliant.”<\/p>\n

The hilarious outfit choice was an instant hit with classmates, according to Vicki, who spent nine hours crafting the costume.<\/p>\n

The annual tradition is designed to celebrate children’s novels, and school pupils turn up as characters out of Harry Potter, the Horrid Henry series or Roald Dahl classics.<\/p>\n

But quick-thinking Vicki decided to go down a more unconventional route and worked over two evenings crafting the Argos catalogue costume.<\/p>\n

She took to social media to share a hilarious snap of her son wearing the square-shaped outfit which has pictures of a Playstation 4, toaster and washing machine on it.<\/p>\n

The mum-of-two said: “He has come home thinking he is the most popular kid in school – they all loved it.<\/p>\n

“I wasn’t sure how the teachers would react, it’s meant to be a character from a book not an actual book, but they were fine.<\/p>\n

“The costume is in my bedroom at the moment and he wants to keep it, he’ll probably wear it to another fancy dress party sometime.”<\/p>\n

Vicki says while her son doesn’t read ‘a lot of different books’ he can’t resist finding his favourite toys in the catalogue every now and then.<\/p>\n

Jaiden’s favourite toys include Transformers, Power Rangers, Star Wars and lego, and likes playing on the Playstation 4.<\/p>\n

It appears Vicki wasn’t the only one whose child wanted to dress up as something different.<\/p>\n

Comedian Joe Heenan sent his son to school dressed as Trainspotting psychopath Begbie and posted a picture of the youngster on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Celebrities have also been posting pictures of their children dressed up for the day.<\/p>\n

Sports stars Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand also posted pictures of their children dressed up for the event.<\/p>\n

Fearne Cotton also posted a picture of her son Rex in a squid hat and said in the caption it’s the “only fancy dress he’ll tolerate.”<\/p>\n\n
