Firefighters have had to free 102 people from handcuffs or chained to beds and cut 23 rings off mens’ penises<\/h2>\n

Saucy Brits spurred on by the kinky antics in <\/span>Fifty Shades of Grey <\/span>are increasingly having to dial 999 after finding themselves in an embarrassing tangle.<\/p>\n

London\u2019s <\/span>firefighters <\/span>have had to get their bolt cutters out to free 23 amorous men with rings stuck on their manhoods and 102 men and women stuck in handcuffs or chained to the bed in the last five years since the books appeared.<\/p>\n

Each call out costs taxpayers at least \u00a3326 – a total of \u00a340,750 – and with the next instalment of the erotic trilogy hitting cinemas fire brigades are bracing themselves for more bedroom mishaps.<\/p>\n

London Fire Brigade urged men to think before they get too carried away with their sexual pleasures.<\/p>\n

Director of Operations Dave Brown warned: warned: \u201cOur advice is simple.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the ring doesn\u2019t fit, don\u2019t force it on. As well as being painful, you could end up wasting emergency service time if you have to call us out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firefighters had to come to the rescue one \u2018victim\u2019 when doctors could not remove two metal rings that had been stuck on his penis for three days in November 2014.<\/p>\n

He had gone to a London A&E in the early hours and the two firefighters had to scrub up and remove the rings using pedal cutters – a hydraulic handheld piece of cutting equipment.<\/p>\n

Other past call outs included helping free a man from a toaster and a vacuum cleaner.<\/p>\n

The brigade said since last April they had to free nine men trapped in rings – the same as for a whole two previous years.<\/p>\n

The number of bondage lovers stuck in handcuffs has also soared since the first film was released in February 2015 with 23 incidents since last April alone.<\/p>\n

There were only 15 incidents recorded in between April 2014 to 2015 but this jumped to 27 in April 2015-16 when the DVD was released.<\/p>\n

Mr Brown added: \u201cThis year so far is the biggest for 50 shade incidents since the books came out.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2015-16 firefighters attended 459 people trapped, often in everyday household items, but this year so far it is only 376.<\/p>\n

While the total number has dropped the proportion of people trapped during sex games has gone up<\/p>\n

The Brigade started the Fifty Shades of Red campaign when the books were released, asking people to think carefully before getting themselves into sticky situations.<\/p>\n

Despite the campaign\u2019s worldwide coverage, the Brigade is still called out more and more to embarrassing incidents every day.<\/p>\n

Over five years the capital\u2019s fire crews were called out to 13 children with their heads stuck in potties or toilet seats, 102 people stuck in handcuffs and 810 wedding or finger rings removed, with 23 from men\u2019s equipment.<\/p>\n

Mr Brown said: \u201cWe\u2019re pleased that fewer people are getting themselves stuck in difficult situations and reducing call outs, however, it seems the Fifty Shades of Grey effect is still leading to some call embarrassing call outs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to remind everyone that 999 is an emergency number and should only be used as such.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s a genuine emergency, fire crews will of course attend and will be on the scene to help within minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added people getting into a jam with rings, bracelets and watches are a common occurrence while firefighters are regularly called to help people and children with their fingers trapped in electrical items like washing machines, sewing machines and heaters.<\/p>\n

The most common type of call out is to people with rings stuck on their fingers.<\/p>\n

Sex rings that are too tight, or worn for too long can be dangerous and can cause priapism – a persistent and often painful erection.<\/p>\n

The NHS warn this is a medical emergency requiring immediate medical assistance because if it is not treated within 24 hours, the penis may be permanently damaged, develop gangrene and may eventually have to be amputated.<\/p>\n
