It\u2019s almost <\/span>Valentine\u2019s Day <\/span>which means a lot of us are going to be out shopping for <\/span>lingerie. Whether you\u2019re shopping for yourself or for someone else, it can be tricky to find the right pieces. We\u2019re not just talking about in terms of size, but also in terms of style and shape. It can take some digging and lot of trying on, but in the end you will hopefully have something that you\u2019re pleased with. We\u2019ve rounded up some common mistakes to make your lingerie hunt easier.<\/p>\n

Check out the mistakes people make when buying lingerie:<\/p>\n

1. Not knowing the correct size.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re buying for someone else, check the tags of their lingerie or just ask what size they are. You might not think it\u2019s romantic to ask, but it\u2019s better than attempting to guess because you will never <\/em>get it right. If you\u2019re shopping for yourself, you might think that you know your size, but it\u2019s a good idea to have a sales associate measure you to confirm it. And remember that your size can fluctuate.<\/p>\n

2. Not trying everything on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even if you have your size figured out, styles vary from one bra to the next. They also vary between brands. Play it safe and try everything on. That way you can discover whether a wire pokes you in the ribs before you get that corset home.<\/p>\n

3. Assuming you\u2019re the same size on top and as you are on the bottom.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some people may be the same size from top to bottom, but a lot of us aren\u2019t. Everyone has curves in different places, so don\u2019t assume that you should automatically grab those panties in the same size as that camisole.<\/p>\n

4. Forgetting to look out for dry clean only garments.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is some seriously fancy lingerie out there and some of it has washing instructions that aren\u2019t your typical machine or hand wash deals. Check the labels carefully, especially if you\u2019re buying lingerie in materials like silk, pleather or leather. Also, watch out for things like rhinestones or crystals because they can make a garment not washable.<\/p>\n

5. Thinking your support comes from your bra straps.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those straps do provide support, but they\u2019re not meant to do it all. It\u2019s the band of your bra that is supposed to do most of the work so make sure that fits properly.<\/p>\n

6. Assuming white \u201cdisappears\u201d like neutral colors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re shopping for some practical lingerie for V-day, note that white and neutral colors are not the same. A white bra does not \u201cdisappear\u201d under the majority of clothes the way a nude bra does. In fact, sometimes there isn\u2019t anything more obvious than a white bra under a white T-shirt.<\/p>\n

7. Not doing  a back check.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One way to tell whether a bra or corset is fitting properly is to do a back check. If it\u2019s riding up or your skin is being pinched, try adjusting the band and straps. If it still doesn\u2019t lay flat and smooth, try another size.<\/p>\n

8. Buying bras or corsets on the tightest hook.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might not think that it makes a huge difference what hook you use, but if you\u2019re savvy, you will buy your bra on the loosest hook or the middle one. The reason? As you wash your bra, it stretches out. When you buy it on the tightest hook to begin with, you won\u2019t have anywhere to go to make it tighter.<\/p>\n

9. Not considering how complicated your lingerie is.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might find something that looks super hot, but it takes a lot of work to get on. Consider whether it\u2019s still worth getting because you don\u2019t want to spend 20 minutes getting dressed and undressed.<\/p>\n

10. Not testing your lingerie under your clothes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re buying lingerie that is strictly meant to be worn without clothes, this one won\u2019t apply. However, if you want your pieces to look as good with clothes as without, you need to actually see what they look like with clothes on top. Check for any awkward lumps and bumps. And remember to take a look at what\u2019s going on in the back.<\/p>\n\n
