Keeping Your Kid in Style: The Top Kids’ Fashion Trends

In the past, the main concern when it came to children’s clothing was durability and affordability.

But now?

Kids want to pick their own outfits, express themselves through style, and share photos of their best outfits with friends just like adults do!

As a parent, you definitely feel the pressure to keep your child in the latest kids’ fashion trends — but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t enjoy shopping for them!

It can be incredibly fun to help your child pick out clothes for a special occasion like a wedding where they’re the ring bearer or flower girl, or even just a nice outfit for the first day of school.

Of course, you’re also looking for clothes that can stand up to the messes your kid always seems to get into (or at least, come out in the wash.)

So, what are the top fashion kids trends that look awesome but are still functional?

Keep on reading this post to find out.

  1. Tie-Dye

One of the most popular kids’ fashion trends is a serious classic that manages to look effortlessly cool — and age-appropriate.

Yep, the tie-dye shirts that you may have worn as a child yourself are back in fashion again for kids these days.

So, what’s changed for this generation?

For starters, kids definitely aren’t interested in making their shirts themselves. (This is probably good news for parents, as this means less mess to clean up later.) Instead, kids are interested in purchasing tie-dye shirts from streetwear and luxury brands.

Little style icon North West and her dad Kanye definitely have something to do with the sudden surge in tie-dye trends. Aim for more pastel shades here, as opposed to the crazy bright colors of the past.

Kids are also much more interested in baggier, oversizes shirts these days. This means they’ll be able to wear them for years to come!

  1. The Right Headgear

Next up on our list of spring trends in children’s fashion?

No matter the season or the temperature, kids these days are all about accessorizing with hats and, for girls especially, turbans.

Musicians popular with the younger set like JoJo Siwa have created their own hat lines that are covered in sequins, emojis, and even hats that have fake hair attached to them.

For boys, smaller fedoras, beanies, and even bucket hats (hello, the 2000s!) are back in a big way.

Pastel turbans and headwraps are all the rage now, too. We think this will be a welcome relief to parents that just don’t feel like coming up with a complicated hairdo for school.

  1. Brand Names

We know that you’ll grumble about the high price tags, but the truth is that kids these days want name-brand clothing just as much as you do!

Many luxury fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, and of course, Gucci, are seriously cashing in on the children’s clothing market.

Other popular children’s brand options include Stella McCartney, Givenchy, and fun-loving Moschino.

Just make sure that the brand’s logo or simply the name is displayed as large as possible. (And hey, if you just can’t stomach the price tag, you can always order the knock-off versions. It’s not like your kids are really going to be able to tell the difference.)

  1. Gender-Neutral Clothing

Just as with adults, children today are much less concerned with gendered clothing than in the past.

While we know that you’re concerned about whether or not these bolder fashion choices will expose your child to bullying, the happy truth is that kids are much more open-minded now.

Usually, the best place to start is with colors and fabric.

Pinks, metallics, plaids, and novelty prints are right for both girls and boys. Younger girls often like the fit of larger-sized boy’s shirts and shorts. Boys can enjoy wearing prints and graphics just as much as girls do.

  1. Western Wear

No, we don’t mean that your child should wear their sheriff’s badge, fringed chaps, and pretend cowboy hat to school.

Western wear is just as popular now with children as it is among adults, and it’s quickly becoming one of the hottest spring fashion trends.

This means getting into gingham, picking up your kid a pair of cowboy boots, or investing in plaid button-down shirts that are reminiscent of a day on the farm. It doesn’t matter if you live in a huge urban area or if your kids have never really done any kind of farmwork in their lives.

It’s all about having fun and dressing the part.

Which of These Bold Kids’ Fashion Trends Will Your Child Try?

We hope that this list of some of the biggest kids’ fashion trends has both you and your child excited about going back-to-school shopping (though let’s be honest, you never need an excuse to shop.)

Remember to allow your child to make (age-appropriate) decisions about the clothes they wear whenever possible. This is a level of autonomy that likely won’t create any major disasters, and the right clothing allows your child to express themselves.
