Selena Gomez CONFIRMS second series of Netflix show 13 Reasons Why

The hit Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why has been renewed for a second series, with producer Selena Gomez confirming the news on Instagram.

‘Their story isn’t over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming,’ she wrote on the social media site with a short teaser trailer for the second series.

The show was based on a book by Jay Asher and followed Clay Jensen, a teenager who is still reeling from the suicide of his friend Hannah Baker when he receives a box of tapes, with each tape detailing a reason that she killed herself.

The series was a critical and commercial hit, although the writer of the show, Nic Sheff, was forced to defend the show’s decision to include a graphic suicide scene which received criticism over what has been claimed as the glorification of suicide.

Netflix later agreed to add new on-screen warnings following mental health concerns leveled against the show.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about more episodes, Selena previously revealed that they knew there ‘are so many stories that lie beneath each character’ but a decision had yet to be made about another series.

Series creator Brian Yorkey also confirmed the story arc of Hannah – played by Katherine Langford – definitely remained unfinished: ‘One of the things that is a fundamental element of our show is the weaving of past and the present.

‘Hannah’s story is still very much not finished. She’s an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she’s very much still at the centre of it.’
