Miss World Australia shuts down trolls after she is attacked for being Muslim

Esma Voloder, 25, was born in a refugee camp after her parents escaped the Bosnian war and eventually relocated to Melbourne, where she has a psychology degree and works as a criminal profiler.

The Miss World Australia national director has admitted since Ms Voloder’s crowning, the organisation has had many “awful and demeaning calls”, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Ms Voloder responded to the criticism by saying it “comes from a lack of understanding” and she “forgives them.”

“I am hoping to break down the barriers by just being me,” she said.

Last Friday, Ms Voloder beat finalists from around the nation to snatch the $68,000 pearl-encrusted crown in Melbourne.

She said the philosophy and value she holds most dear is faith.

“Faith in good, faith in prosperity, faith in cohesion, and faith that things can always get better,” Ms Voloder said from the Grand Hyatt ballroom.

“Despite what your personal beliefs are, if we all believe in what is good, we can work together and make this world a beautiful and livable place whilst we are here.”
