Emmy Rossum is famous for her role as Fiona Gallagher on the Showtime hit series Shameless. She is also well-known for co-starring in the 2004 film Phantom of the Opera. Tonight she stars in a new episode of Shameless, where she works as an apartment superintendent who is having serious trouble collecting rent from her deadbeat tenants.
Every since she was a little girl, Rossum was involved with show business, singing on the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus at age seven. She sang in six languages in 20 different operas over the course of five years, including La bohème, Turandot, a Carnegie Hall presentation of La damnation de Faust, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Rossum broke into the acting industry in August 1997, playing the role of the original Abigail Williams in the daytime soap opera As the World Turns. In 1999, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award in 1999 for Best Performance in a TV Movie for the Disney Channel’s Genius. Her first major motion picture role was in the 2003 film Mystic River. She later co-starred in the 2004 film The Day After Tomorrow.
The famed Showtime actress also has a career in music, releasing two studio albums: Inside Out (2007) and Sentimental Journey.
