Princess Charlene of Monaco debuts dramatic shaved hairstyle

She’s usually recognisable by her trademark blonde flowing locks but Princess Charlene of Monaco has debuted a very dramatic new hairstyle.

The 42-year-old former Olympic swimmer, who is married to Prince Albert II, showed off her new ‘do at the Christmas tree ceremony at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco.

Princess Charlene’s hair has been dyed a darker colour, with one side shaved in a close buzz cut.

While she kept the right side of her hair long, the left side has a whole new look, with the new hairstyle forming an undercut just after her temple.

It’s not the first time the princess has played around with different hairstyles, however, this appears to be to be the first time she’s dipped her toes into a darker colour.

Princess Charlene, formerly known at Charlene Wittstock, met Prince Albert II at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition in Monte Carlo in 2000.

Charlene, a South African swimmer who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, became engaged to Prince Albert in 2010.

In 2011, just days before they were due to marry, controversy shrouded their big day as it was reported that the future princess had tried to flee Monaco after discovering Albert, who already had two illegitimate children, had fathered a third love child.

According to L’Express, Charlene tried to flee Monaco three times but in the end, their three-day wedding went ahead as planned.

The palace have denied all of the rumours, telling People magazine: “None of this is true, and we think it comes from utter jealousy.”

The couple went on to become the proud parents to twins Prince Jacques Honoré Rainier and Princess Gabriella, Countess of Carladès in 2014.
