Melania Trump will no longer be first lady come January 20, 2021, but she still has one more holiday season in the White House to oversee.
On Monday, November 23, this year’s official Christmas tree arrived at the White House, where it was greeted by FLOTUS. (Donald Trump did not attend.) “Each year the arrival of the #WHChristmas tree brings a spirit of holiday warmth & tradition to the @WhiteHouse. This year’s tree will continue to bring joy to those who will pass through the halls of the White House during this most wonderful time of the year,” she tweeted, alongside a video of the tree’s arrival.
On the surface, this is yet another first lady going through long-held traditional behavior, but with the Trumps…nothing is traditional. For the past few years, social media users have mocked Melania Trump’s holiday decor choices…and that was before comments leaked about how she allegedly really feels about all this pomp and circumstance.
“I’m working…my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know. Who gives a fuck about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” the first lady is heard telling her former friend and aide Stephanie Winston Wolkoff in a leaked convo that went viral earlier this year. “Okay, and then I do it and I say that I’m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas.”
People on Twitter took those comments and ran with them.

Another Twitter user played on a popular Republican talking point, writing, “The war on Christmas is coming from inside the house.”
