Jennifer Lawrence sat down with Bill Whitaker for a very candid interview on 60 Minutes. The Oscar-winning actress opened up about her nude photo hack and Harvey Weinstein, who produced Silver Linings Playbook.
When asked if Weinstein was ever inappropriate toward her, she said no, but added, “What he did is criminal and deplorable. And when it came out and I heard about it, I wanted to kill him. The way that he destroyed so many women’s lives. I want to see him in jail.”
Lawrence may have avoided being assaulted by Weinstein, but she was publicly violated when her private nude photos were hacked and spread across the Internet in 2014. The violation affected both her private and professional life. Lawrence said, “I read this script that I’m dying to do, and the one thing that’s getting in my way is nudity, and I realized, there’s a difference between consent and not.”
Although that has changed for her now. Lawrence gets naked in her new movie, Red Sparrow, and she admitted that after filming her first nude scene, she felt empowered. “I feel like something that was taken from me, I got back, and am using in my art,” Lawrence told Whitaker. And if anyone has an issue with Lawrence getting naked in her movies now, she had a message for them — ” It’s my body and it’s my art and it’s my choice. And if you don’t like boobs, you should not go see Red Sparrow.”
