How to Make the Best Ever Brown Sugar Face Scrub

I am obsessed with natural skincare and I’m always looking forward to trying out new things. During the years, I’ve collected many recipes that I like and use on a regular basis to cleanse, nourish and protect my skin.

Currently, I’m super excited about some amazing natural face masks for glowing skin I’ve found recently. I keep trying them out and it’s hard to say which one I like the most.

But, when people ask me what my favorite DIY skincare product is, I usually recommend the recipe down below – my favorite all-natural face scrub.

This DIY face scrub with brown sugar and oatmeal powder is inexpensive, easy to make and suitable for all skin types. It is moisturizing and nourishing, rejuvenating and restoring. With regular usage, it encourages the skin to heal and renew itself.

Every time I use this scrub, my skin gets bright, soft, smooth and supple. My cheeks get a little plumper, my complexion a little more even. My skin also soaks up my face moisturizer much better – no greasy residue or unused nutrients.

Especially if your skin is dry and a bit sensitive, I’d recommend you to try out this scrub. It will remove all the dry, dull skin cells and reveal the skin that is young, healthy and glowing. Plus, it is so budget friendly and easy to make – there’s literally nothing you can lose by giving this amazing product a chance.

If you decide to try it out, make sure to patch-test the scrub first (as you should do with any new products). Other than that, the procedure couldn’t be any simpler:

DIY Face Scrub with Brown Sugar and Oatmeal

The main ingredients for this face scrub are:

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons finely ground rolled oats
  • 2 teaspoons jojoba oil (or any other natural oil you prefer)
  • 1 teaspoon raw organic honey

I also like to add a combination of essential oils that suit my skin the most. You can opt to add your own custom combination instead. Or, and especially if your skin is prone to irritations, you can skip the essential oils altogether. The oils I like to use are:

  • 2 drops frankincense
  • 2 drops geranium
  • 1 drop lavender

Here’s how to make the scrub:

Step 1:

First, finely grind the rolled oats. You can use a coffee grinder or any food processor for this.

If your skin is very sensitive and prone to irritations, you can also grind the brown sugar a bit. However, don’t grind it to fine powder – there should be enough grains left to exfoliate your skin.

Mix the ground oatmeal and brown sugar in a small bowl.

Step 2:

Add the jojoba oil, honey and, if you want, the essential oils. Mix everything well. You should get a texture similar to wet sand. If your scrub is too dry, you can add a bit more jojoba oil. If it is too oily, add some more brown sugar.

Step 3:

Transfer the scrub to a clean, dry airtight glass container and keep it in a cool, dry place.

Stored like this, this scrub should last at least for around 1 month. This amount of scrub is enough for 3 – 4 uses.

Step 4:

When you want to use the scrub, apply it to a wet face. Using upward circular motions, gently exfoliate your skin for around 5 minutes. And don’t forget your lips – this is also a great lip scrub.

Wash off the scrub and apply a face moisturizer right away, to lock in the moisture.

You can use this face scrub 1 – 2 times a week.
