Which Colored Contact Lenses Are Most Natural Looking?

Colored contacts are a way to add intensity to eyes while changing their color. According to Shalini Vadhera’s book, “Passport to Beauty: Secrets and Tips from Around the World for Becoming a Global Goddess,” contacts are a hit with the glamorous ladies of India’s film industry because they enhance eye color. Contact lenses come in a variety of colors, but some are more natural than others. Enhancement tints can be a great way to alter light-colored eyes, while dark eyes require a natural-looking opaque lens.

Types of Lenses

Colored contact lenses come in two different degrees of translucency: enhancement tints and opaque. Enhancement-tinted are semi-transparent, allowing some degree of the original eye color to shine through. These lenses do not completely change the color so much as they tint them to another shade. An opaque lens completely masks the eye’s original color, and are available in flat and tonal colors.

Blue Eyes

Light-colored eyes have the most color-changing options because their color tends not to conflict with contact lenses. Unlike dark brown eyes, blue eyes can use an enhancement tint to change them to another natural looking color. Grey or violet tinted lenses can help transform blue eyes while maintaining their original luminosity. Additionally, these colors could complement fairer complexions and lighter-colored eyelashes.

Green Eyes

Changing green eyes into another natural hue would depend on the shade of green. Pale green eyes can easily be changed to a soft blue or gray with enhancement-tinted lenses. Intense green eyes might overpower light-tinted contact lenses. But, a natural look can still be achieved with the use of enhancement lenses by choosing a hazel color. Flecks of caramel and gold can help add pizazz to emerald eyes while retaining some of the natural color.
Hazel Eyes and Light Brown

Eyes that are hazel or light brown can still use enhanced-tinted lenses. Hazel eyes can be intensified with a green-tinted contact, which can help them to appear more emerald, popping even more. Light brown eyes can also be enhanced with green-tinted lenses to achieve a more hazel effect. On the other end of the spectrum, darker lenses can be chosen for a more sultry appearance. Dark, translucent lenses come in shades from deep mahogany to onyx. The lenses’ transparency still allows light into the eyes, so eyes shouldn’t lose any sparkle.

Dark Brown Eyes

Dark, penetrating eyes can be the hardest to change when trying to achieve a natural color. An opaque colored lens is necessary, as brown eyes can overwhelm any translucent lens. One way to achieve an eye color change is to pick a tonal contact lens, instead of opting for flat color. A light brown opaque lens that is tinged with flecks of amber and mahogany can add dimension to the opaque lens, making the new eye color appear to be more natural. Women with dark eyes can choose natural hues like honey or deep amber, which are lighter than dark brown eyes, but still retain a natural appearance.
