A ‘Game of Thrones’ drinking game to toast death at Winterfell

Sunday’s “Game of Thrones” episode, which will see almost every character facing off against the Army of the Dead at Winterfell, has been called the biggest battle in the history of television. At 1 hours and 22 minutes, it will be the longest episode in the HBO hit’s eight seasons and sure to filled with spectacle, as well as heartbreaking deaths.

Last week, several key players were seen drinking together to celebrate their last potential night alive — including Jaime, Tyrion, Brienne, Tormund, Davos and Podrick. So there’s no better way to celebrate their (maybe) deaths than imitating that ragtag group.

Here’s a drinking game you can play as you watch.

Drink a White Russian if Tormund dies

Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) is hilarious, and he was so spotlighted in last week’s episode with his absurd story about giant’s breast milk that his survival odds seem slim. If our favorite leche-loving Wilding weirdo goes, chug a milk cocktail of your own to toast him.

Sip White Knight if Jaime and/or Brienne die

Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) were also highlighted in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” as Jaime knighted Brienne. With that act, his redemption arc was complete, and she got everything she’d always wanted. We hate to say it, but that makes their survival odds slim. Since both characters have stood as the story’s exploration of what knighthood means, toast them with a White Knight, which involves scotch, coffee liqueur, Drambuie and milk.

(Note: if you drank a White Russian for Tormund already, that could be a dangerous combination. Proceed with caution.)

Sip your drink if somebody calls the crypts safe

It’s almost comical how many times various characters have talked about how “safe” the Winterfell crypts are. That’s where (most of) the women and children will spend the battle. Since their enemy can raise the dead, this doesn’t seem like a great plan. Drink if anybody confidently calls the crypts “safe” again.

Drink if Sandor Clegane, a k a the Hound, saves a Stark girl

Rory McCann as SandorHelen Sloan/HBO

The Hound (Rory McCann) might be uncouth, but over the course of the show, he’s been an unlikely protector of Stark girls. In Seasons 1 and 2 he was kind to Sansa in King’s Landing, and in Seasons 3 and 4, he went on a road trip with Arya. If he puts himself in the line of fire to save one of them, drink to his hidden sense of honor.

Drink half a cup if Podrick dies

Podrick (Daniel Portman) is everyone’s favorite squire. He’s been endlessly supportive of Brienne, and he’s got a lovely singing voice. He’s too pure for this world, so he’s almost certainly toast. In “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” Brienne cautioned him to drink just half a cup of wine before the battle. So toast him accordingly.

Drink a Grizzly Bear if Jorah and/or Lyanna Mormont die

The main representatives for House Mormont, which has a Bear symbol, are Jorah (Iain Glenn) and sassy little girl Lyanna (Bella Ramsey). Should either of them fall, toast them with a drink befitting their House. The Grizzly Bear cocktail includes amaretto, Jägermeister and Kahlúa.

Drink if Jaime or Brienne use their swords to defend a Stark

Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie)HBO

Ned Stark’s sword, Ice, was melted down by Tywin Lannister and forged into two swords: Widow’s Wail (which used to be Joffrey’s and is now Jaime’s) and Oathkeeper (which Jaime gave to Brienne). Between the two of them, Ned’s sword is back in Winterfell once more, fighting for Starks. Will they be used explicitly to save their lives? Drink if so.
