Why helix tattoos are all over your Instagram

Helix Tattooing has arrived and it’s the new tattoo trend that will permanently erase the fear of losing a precious earring.

The latest Instagram-movement is a cool alternative to the behind-the-ear ink look, a style that counts models Hailey Baldwin and Cara Delevingne as fans.

The look of the tattoo sees a dainty design permanently tattooed on the upper-outer curve of your ear known as the helix, to resemble either an earring or ear-embellishment.

Helix tattoos are subtle, delicate and dainty in their appearance and designs can range from minimalist lines meant to resemble a piercing, or floral and polka-dot embellishments have been a popular option for the more daring types.

We are guessing it won’t take long for helix tattoos to hit the ears of ink-loving A-list celebrities who are fans of tattoos that have a more deep and meaningful purpose.

Supermodel Bella Hadid sports a tiny pair of delicate wings on her ankle, and Lady Gaga’s ‘Joanne’ arm tattoo is dedicated to her aunt of the same name, with the ink designed to replicate her signature.

“Women in particular have been favouring the look of the helix tattoo,  it’s a style where the tattoo can be meaningful and decorative at the same time,” says Tattoo Artist Dalriada.

If you are opting to embellish your ears with a helix tattoo like all body-ink decisions it’s essential to do your research.

“Because it’s such designed on such a delicate part of the body, it’s essential to choose a reputable and experienced artist who can deliver a high-level degree of care and attention,” says Dalriada.

The understated nature of the helix tattoo is part of the appeal for those dipping into the body-ink pool for the first time.

“It’s not found in an exposed part of the body which makes it an ideal first-time tattoo,” says Dalriada.
